Tokyowheel rider Tony V. from Guam, USA gives a ride report video review of the EPIC 60 wheelset. Check it out below.
Hello everyone, my name is Tony and I’m from the beautiful island of Guam. I am going to do a short personal ride experience review, regarding the EPIC 60mm carbon clincher wheel set, that i purchased from Tokyowheel about 3 months ago.
This wheel set is 100% carbon and its 60mm deep. There are options for the wheel set but I went with all the standard components on the build, which came with the 3.2 mm black areo bladed spokes. As you can see right there this is a rear wheel and it has 24 spokes. The front has 20. The hubs are Tokyowheel Vapor hubs, they have 4 sealed cartridge bearings, that’s the rear. In the front we have 2 sealed cartridge bearings. The wheel set also includes the accessories, a pair of quick release, which look something like this, a pair of BlueStop carbon brake pads for each wheel, and they look something like that if you can see it. That’s the rear. And they all have preinstalled nylon rim strips. And lastly they come with a pair of 60 mm valve extensions. As you can see right there.
Personal ride experience… let’s see. I’m about 5’8” tall, I weigh about 160 lbs, and I guess my physical appearance has no impact on the wheel. Ive been riding on this carbon wheel set for about 2 months now, and i consider them as my everyday use. I’ve been averaging about 2 to 2 and a half hours ride sessions, every other day. And all I can say is, so far so good. And also to this day, the wheel it’s self does not need truing yet.
On easy hills to steep hills, I have not noticed any Flexing on the descent. The hubs are Smooth and Fast.
On the flats, what can I say, my cadence has improved…Alright! Well, you know, I’m just an old rider but hey.
Crosswinds, it does very well. Not much of a struggle to keep the bike going straight.
Braking. From a sale 1 to 10, with 10 being excellent. I would say 8, maybe 8.5 on the braking power on the carbon. Note though, I’ve not had the experience to ride in the rain, so I can’t say much about braking in wet weather, but my hunch tells me I think it’s going to do pretty well.
So anyways, overall experience with these wheels. I say they’re great wheels. No problem with them, it has exceeded my expectation. Any rider who is looking for some great aero wheels on a budget, this is probably a wheel set that you might want to try.
And I just feel that overall they’re great.
I hope this short video was informative, and thank you for viewing. Bye.
